Harmonics Calculation Option for Motor Drive Analyzers
09 November 2015 – Teledyne LeCroy offers a new Harmonics Calculation option for the Motor Drive Analyzer (MDA800) series. This optional software package enhances the standard capabilities of the Motor Drive Analyzer software by adding advanced harmonic filtering for AC Input and Drive Output Numeric table measurements; Total Harmonic Distortion (THD) measurement parameters for voltage, current, and power; and a new Harmonic Order table with Spectral waveform displays. The Motor Drive Analyzer is built on the 8 channel/12-bit HDO8000 oscilloscope platform.
High-Sensitivity Current Probes with up to 120 MHz Bandwidth
04 November 2015 - Yokogawa launched two new high-sensitivity current probes a for its families of mixed-signal oscilloscopes and ScopeCorders. The 701917, covering a frequency range from DC to 50 MHz, and the 701918, covering DC to 120 MHz, offer sensitivities ten times higher than previous models (typically 1 V/A) along with low noise levels of typically 60 µA RMS. They are ideally suited to the measurement of low-level currents from about 1 mA to 5 A.
MIPI D-PHY Support for Rohde & Schwarz R&S RTO Oscilloscopes
27 October 2015 - A new option from Rohde & Schwarz permits R&S RTO oscilloscopes to trigger on DSI- and CSI-2 specific protocol data of MIPI D PHY interfaces and to decode the acquired waveforms into readable protocol content. The R&S RTO-K42 software option supports developers during the design, verification and debugging of MIPI D-PHY based interfaces. These interfaces are mainly used in cameras and displays in smartphones and tablets as well as in other electronic devices.
Three new Modules for Yokogawa’s ScopeCorder Family
22 October 2015 -Yokogawa added new products to the range of plug-in measurement modules for Yokogawa’s DL850E/DL850EV ScopeCorder family, bringing the total number of modules available to 19. The new units are the 720211 high-speed (100 MS/s) 12-bit isolation module, the 720243 SENT monitor module (available only for the DL850EV Vehicle Edition ScopeCorder) and the 720254 4-channel 1 MS/s 16-bit isolation module.
Fully Automated MIPI M-PHY Transmitter Test Solution for Mobile Storage Devices
21 October 2015 – Tektronix announced the industry’s first fully automated physical layer transmitter test solution for the MIPI M-PHY 3.1 specification and Conformance Test Suite (CTS) 3.1. The solution supports M-PHY High Speed Gears 1, 2 and 3, PWM Mode (G0-G7), and SYS Mode and offers the industry’s lowest noise solution for M-PHY measurements when used with Tektronix DPO70000SX or MSO/DPO70000DX oscilloscopes and P7600 series probes.
Open Source USB Oscilloscope supports multiple Operating Systems
12 October 2015 - LabNation launched its open source USB oscilloscope, SmartScope. The development was funded by a Kickstarter campaign commenced in 2014. SmartScope runs on multiple operating systems and platforms such as smartphones, tablets and PCs. The lightweight SmartScope is powered directly from the host’s USB interface and combines the multiple functions of an oscilloscope, logic analyser and a waveform generator in an aluminium case measuring just 110.0 x 64.0 x 24.2 mm.
Tektronix offers PAM4 Analysis Solution for Real Time and Equivalent Time Oscilloscopes
05 October 2015 - Tektronix announced that its comprehensive set of analysis tools for emerging PAM4 modulation now operates on both DPO70000SX 70 GHz real time and DSA8300 equivalent time oscilloscopes. PAM4 is being adopted in the latest 400 Gigabit Ethernet standard by the IEEE P802.3bs working group for 400G (typically 8 x 50G) electrical and optical interfaces. Compared to traditional NRZ that uses two-level signaling, the four-level scheme used in PAM4 significantly increases signal complexity and places new demands on test equipment for performance and noise sensitivity.

A Comparison between Oscilloscopes and Spectrum Analyzers
Whether it is for a land survey searching for minerals on Earth, or for a space exploration in search of alien life forms, the analysis of any signal boils down to looking at its time and frequency information. While an oscilloscope displays a signal with respect to time, a spectrum analyzer shows it with respect to frequency. Both of these tools are very important in any signal analysis application. This article explains the difference between oscilloscope and spectrum analyzer using examples.
